Camille Roskelley, best-selling author of Simplify with Camille Roskelley, puts a brand new spin on traditional-block quilting. By exploring modern print combinations and employing innovative techniques such as supersizing blocks, Roskelley offers a fresh interpretation of classic blocks in 12 achievable projects. Simple enough for beginners, all of the projects are easy to piece using precuts, yardage, and scrap fabrics. And, as always, Roskelley's fail-proof instructions and expert knowledge will guide and inspire every step of the way.
* Master a variety of simple techniques such as half-square triangles and easy Flying Geese for a bold, sophisticated style
* Classic-block quilting gets a modern makeover with jumbo sizes, fresh prints and colors, and secondary patterns created with color placement
* Bridge the traditional and modern with quilts that have timeless appeal
Although I have cobbled together several patchwork blankets, the world of classic quilting is new to me, and mighty intimidating it can seem. Upon opening this book, I could only gape in awe at the beautiful block quilts featured in Camille Roskelly's repertoire, hoping that perhaps I might one day master half-square triangles and Flying Geese too. Roskelly's particular skill is to bridge the gap between traditional techniques and modern designs, and she achieves this with flair in Simply Retro. Colour combinations I wouldn't have thought of for quilts - red, grey and white in a vintage design, for example - bring a freshness to clasic blocks, designs - such as houses - and large bold prints make for inspiring viewing. Although I am not sure there is much that is terribly simple about making quilts, the instructions did become clear to even a novice like me, once I actually started to work through each step, and there is a comprehensive section on finishing off, so maybe my quilt dreams will come true!
Australian Quilter's Companion
In Camille's words, this book starts with the idea of taking traditional blocks, updating them, upscaling them and giving them a twist. You'll love the way Camille has simplified the piecing to maximize chain piecing and minimize Y-seams.
