Having lived just outside of Hannibal, Missouri, all her life, Christina McCourt became immersed in all things Mark Twain. The sweet and simple projects in this book are dedicated to his beloved characters Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher and their budding romance. The centrepiece of the collection is the sampler quilt, in which each block represents Tom, Becky, or the people and adventures in their lives. The quilts Becky’s Waltz and Tom’s Fancy stand out as wonderful examples of Christina’s eye for colour and pattern. Other quilt projects include the graphic and colourful Lost in the Cave and Poor Boy Huck.

Looking at the front cover you would never guess that the inspiration is Mark Twain, but that is the source of inspiration for these quilt projects. Tom is Tom Sawyer and Becky is Becky Thatcher, characters in Twains books. It might sound like an American theme, but Twain has been a popular author world-wide for over a hundred years.

The book includes seven quilt designs and two pillow designs. Eleven blocks are provided to make the sampler quilt shown on the front cover. The motifs are universal and have wide appeal. Not only are the motifs eye-catching, the edging is a spectacular picket fence. Beckys Waltz, Toms Fancy and the other quilts are all equally fine.

The instructions are easy to follow, step by step, and are accompanied by clear photographs. A beautiful book and a lovely way to remember Mark Twain or to just celebrate good quilting with attractive motifs.

Crochet Addict UK

This book is full of 11 projects that have all been inspired by Mark Twain. Christina has taken her inspiration and made them into beautiful classic designs. Her use of different shapes to bring together different designs is amazing. Each of the projects is split into sections and then into each step. It makes it really easy to follow and easy to break the projects down into easy bite size chunks. Each project starts with all the details of the supplies and materials you will need.
Then the cutting instructions. From there you are given step by step instructions and pictures. It makes it amazingly simple to put together quite complex designs. Each of the designs use a similar colour design but you can also substitute them to your own colour choices. Personally I think the colour choices
make the design of the different projects. Anyone who quilts should be able to pick up this book and make any of the projects held within.
