The Finer Edge

by Kristin Omdahl

Think outside the frame with The Finer Edge! While crochet edgings are customarily used to trim or finish blankets and garments, designer Kristin Omdahl treats crocheters to both traditional and novel new ways to expand their use of edgings. She shows how edging patterns can be used to create entire fabrics, reformatted to make individual decorative motifs, reverse-engineered from existing fabrics, and even used to create 3-dimensional designs. Focusing on construction techniques for edgings, the book is divided into separate sections based on top-down, sideways, and bottom-up methods to help guide the reader. As well, Kristin incorporates her innovative seamless, join-as-you-go style.
Twelve project patterns highlight some of the edgings, but the reader is also encouraged to creatively mix and match within each edging’s section. Charts, illustrations, and photographs of crochet swatches will be included in the book’s stitch library. The pattern collection includes multiple sizes (including plus sizes), where applicable. Throughout the book, sidebar notes help the reader understand the many possibilities for each of the techniques and stitch patterns.

The crochet market is growing rapidly. As a consequence, those who are fast becoming avid crocheters, plus those who have more advanced crochet skills, share an appetite to expand their knowledge base. Kristin’s book offers this audience a fresh twist on creating edgings and borders, encouraging crocheters to customize their own creations and learn new ways of incorporating edges throughout a piece
Other books focus on traditional uses of crochet edging. The Finer Edge offers both traditional and innovative ways to create and apply a crocheted edge to a wide range of projects
Includes an extensive stitch library
Includes regular and plus-sized patterns
