Flowers have traditionally been a major subject in Chinese brush painting. In the past, flower pictures were regarded as more important than those of animals, birds, or even people. Students learning under a traditional Chinese brush painting master today still begin with flowers and plants and concentrate on these for some time before moving on to other subjects. The pictures in this book were all painted with Chinese brushes using oriental ink and colours on unsized Shuen paper.
