Thread pictures are made by stretching threads across a flat surface in carefully-controlled lines. As the threads cross and recross in horizontal, vertical and diagonal directions, building up in some areas more than others, they form characteristic patterns, rich in depth and texture. You can only work the threads in straight lines, but certain arrangements cause curved shapes to appear of themselves. In this way, you can build up a large number of complex compositions. All you have to do is combine a few basic designs and the techniques are explained in this book.
