British Patchwork & Quilting
A book on how to use up even the tiniest scraps, or crumbs, from your stash. A zero-waste method of patchwork. Twelve projects to choose from including a cushion, a pincushion, table runners and full-sized quilts.
The introduction is followed by the standard tools and materials before the crumb piecing methods are looked at for blocks, backgrounds and applique. Crumb block quilts come first which use plain fabrics for the background of the blocks. Applique wth crumb fabrics are next, using reverse applique or bonded applique, followed by a section on crumb pieced backgrounds.
There are many clever options for using up your scraps. I particularly liked the Night Sky quilt and Under the Sea would make a delightful child's quilt. There is a sampler style quilt to finish. General techniques is the final sections which covers some of the basics relevant to crumb quilting. Full-sized templates are provided for the required applique shapes.
For those of us who like to use up every scrap of fabric, Crumb Quilts is an excellent resource. It is my book of the month.
Crafts Beautiful
Crumb quilting is the ultimate zero waste patchwork, using tiny scraps or 'crumbs' of fabric that are so small, most people would through them away. Emily Bailey's Crumb Quilts teaches you how to use these to create beautiful quilts and quilted projects to bust your stash, with step-by-step guides, tips and tricks, and beautiful photography to boot.
