There's a definite move towards quilting and craft project books which fuse technical advice and know-how with a more personal approach from the author. We don't think we've ever seen a clearer example of this than Alison Glass Appliqué. The author is an accomplished designer and has made a successful business from something which is clearly a passion first and foremost. As such, her personal anecdotes and insights that pepper the project descriptions can be fascinating, and give interesting context to the appliqué beyond just 'how to' and delving into 'why'. From a technical standpoint, the book holds its own as a superb reference for the gamut of modern appliqué techniques, satisfying any curiosity you might have on the subject and inspiring the reader to experiment. Most of us enjoy the stories and personalities behind quilts, too, and this book effectively gives us glimpses into the author's creative process even her philosophy, whilst educating and informing on the subject. A whimsical but also eminently technical book, which we thoroughly recommend.
