We are delighted to be working with Julia Chiang, a designer and crafter whose joyful miniature crochet designs have quickly captured the imagination of the amigurumi community. With her distinctive aesthetic, thoughtful construction and strong visual storytelling, Julia brings a fresh and contemporary voice to Search Press’s crochet list.
Julia is an Asian American crochet designer who has been enchanted by small, adorable creations for as long as she can remember. As a child, she stitched plushies and folded origami animals, already convinced tiny treasures held a certain magic. Now she conjures miniature worlds from yarn and colour, each one made with the belief that handmade things carry something extra.
When she isn't crocheting, you'll find Julia drawing her bow across cello strings or wandering Seattle in devoted pursuit of the perfect bubble tea, two quests, she'll insist, that have more in common than you'd think.
Julia’s work is characterised by its warmth, charm and attention to detail. Her designs transform everyday subjects into characterful miniature creations, combining clear structure with a playful sensibility. Each project encourages crocheters to enjoy both the process and the finished piece, making her work particularly appealing to crafters who love creating small, expressive designs.
Her first book with Search Press, Mini Amigurumi Woodland, published in July 2025, marked a hugely successful debut. Featuring an enchanting collection of woodland-themed characters, the book has resonated strongly with readers and has sold over 35,000 copies to date. Its success reflects Julia’s ability to balance approachability with originality, offering projects that are engaging without being intimidating and delightful to make as well as display and gift.
Building on this momentum, Julia’s upcoming titles demonstrate the versatility and imaginative scope of her design work. Mini Amigurumi Food, scheduled for June 2026, brings everyday treats and favourite dishes into miniature form, while Mini Amigurumi Garden, publishing in November 2027, will explore the natural world through flowers, plants and garden-inspired characters. Together, these books continue to expand Julia’s miniature universe while maintaining a cohesive and recognisable style – and all of the new creations are obviously really cute!
Julia brings creativity, care and a strong visual identity to each project, alongside a clear understanding of what makes a crochet design both satisfying to create and appealing to a global audience. Her work reflects a shared commitment to producing books that are engaging, well-crafted and full of joy.
We are incredibly proud of Julia’s achievements with Search Press so far and look forward to continuing to develop this collaboration as her publishing journey grows.
