Customer review

Anybody would love this reference book from novice to expert. If only I had been able to access the information that this book holds when I was starting out I might well have become a more accomplished knitter. From the very beginning the book explains the basic equipment you need, the different types of yarns that are available, in easy-to-understand terms. Progressing through the book it identifies several ways of casting on, casting off, basic stitches like knit and purl. It gives you vital instruction about tensions and the stitches to use when you are putting a garment together. Instructions are not only given in writing but are also illustrated. There is a large section that guides you through stitches using knit and purl, progressing to cable stitch, bobbles and multi-coloured knitting. I would have never believed how many patterns you can make with simple knit and purl. The final section shows you how to design and plan your own work. I would definitely recommend this as a reference book to keep on your shelf.

Customer review

I have other books similar to this but the Encyclopedia of Knitting Techniques is the one I will be using from now on. Everything is so well set-out and easy to follow, and the photographs show close-ups, clear, and in detail. This gives me the confidence to give them a go. I would think that for any knitter, from a beginner to someone who has knitted for years, this would be an invaluable resource.

Customer review

I simply adore this type of craft, it is so doable and attractive. This beautiful book by Sarah Matthews lets us into the secrets of paper crafting for the home, there are no less than 25 fabulous projects that would complement any household decor, each project has a template and step by step instructions with full colour pictures to guide us. We can choose from simple gift box houses, flower garlands, a decorative pineapple and many more, there is even a paper lampshade. A must have book for the keen home stylist.

Customer review

I'd suggest this for knitters who have already learned the basics and are willing to pace themselves as they learn the new techniques. There are a lot of photos alongside illustrations which is helpful to see how the hands hold the yarn and needles. It goes all the way from knit and purl and which tools and yarn you need to knit, to designing your own knits. So while you'll need to buy patterns alongside this to practise what you've learned, this should last any knitter a good few years!
