We have a friendly team of 37, including a full warehouse and distribution operation. We publish around 100 new titles a year alongside a strong backlist, and also offer distribution services to other publishers.

Graphic Designer
Location: Royal Tunbridge Wells
Salary: £27,000–£29,000 per year, dependent on experience, plus bonus

An exciting opportunity for a talented Graphic Designer has arisen at independent book publisher Search Press – a friendly, dynamic team publishing inspiring, award-winning art and craft books.
We are looking for someone with Graphic Design experience, technical ability, and creative flair to work within the design and editorial department. You need to have a sound level of skill in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. You should have excellent communication skills, be a self-starter with a keen eye for detail, have a natural understanding of design, and enthusiasm to develop your skills further. Knowledge or enjoyment in art and/or craft activities is advantageous but not a dealbreaker. Most of all, we are looking for someone with drive and enthusiasm to become an intrinsic part of our dynamic, creative team.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Conceptualising, designing, and managing all stages of your book projects – from creating moodboards and working up initial and final designs, to colour proofing.
- Executing a broad range of design styles that are appropriate for various age groups and art and craft subjects. A strong sense of title branding is important.
- Working collaboratively with the Head of Design and all members of the design, editorial, production, and in-house teams, from concept to final book.
- Communicating effectively with artists as well as in-house and out-of-house teams.
- Creating detailed illustration and photography briefs, and providing guidance and feedback on artwork supplied from external sources.
- Creating print-ready PDFs for production.
- Checking proofs and ensuring all titles are approved for press with a high standard of design.
- Assisting with Book Fair and Sales Conference preparation, updating catalogues when required.
- Working with the Production team on reprint titles, adjusting, updating, correcting, and checking files when needed.
- Keeping up-to-speed on changing graphic and visual trends.
- Assisting with art directing and planning in-house and location photo shoots alongside the photographer and book editor.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator).
- Sufficient years of experience to make an immediate start.
- BA (Hons) or equivalent in design is preferred.
- Confident at creative problem-solving across a wide variety of projects.
- Motivated and hard-working team player with a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and happy to work across different product categories.
- Able to handle verbal and visual briefs.
- Strong time management and organisation: able to plan, work flexibly, and deliver to deadlines.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Fast learner with attention to detail.
- Proven experience in designing for print, with an eye for commercial appeal.
- A portfolio that highlights strong typography skills and ability to combine type and image.
- Desirable: Experience working with licensed ranges and a passion for art and craft.

We have been publishing art and craft books since the 1970s and have won numerous industry awards, including the 2026 IPG Independent Publisher of the Year, of which we are extremely proud.
We are unique within the industry as we see our books through in-house, from concept all the way through to completion – we even have our own photography studio and warehouse.
Search Press is just a 10-minute walk from High Brooms station (which is on the London Charing Cross to Hastings train line). We are close to both the A21 and A26.
